Classic Silk

Classic Silk has arrived in time for summer.  This warm-weather silk/cotton combination has a great nubby look with a little sheen and a great natural silk feel. Classic Silk comes a wonderful variety of colors that look great together and alone.  It's a blend of 50% cotton, 30% silk, 20% nylon and knits up at 5 sts/inch on US 6 needles with 135 yards/ 50 gram ball.

The new 2012 pattern booklet for Classic Silk, Riverside is filled with five lightweight designs including Canoe, pictured on the front cover, a simple granny square crochet top.

The Classic Silk Open Cardigan has been one of my favorites for a while.  It's a basic cardigan with a little lace detail along the front band.   Featured in the Classic Elite booklet New Harbor #9098.

From top to bottom: Butter, Oatmeal and Natural.

Moss, Blue Yonder and Cornflower.

Foxglove, Plum and Coneflower.

Soft Linen

Digitalis Mitts in Soft Linen designed by Alegria DaSilva are light and lacy for summer days and the alpaca makes them warm enough for cool evenings.  This is a free pattern available from Classic Elite Yarns and only uses one ball of Soft Linen!

We tried out the pattern and loved it.  A quick and fun lace pattern runs along the top of the mitt and the palm in stockinette.  They feel wonderful on too!  We knit ours in color Thistle.

 The Yarn
Classic Elite Yarns, Soft Linen is the perfect yarn for warmer days and soft, cool nights. The alpaca makes a beautiful halo, the linen gives it a crisp and firm hand and the wool provides stability and its own level of softness.
Knits up as a dk weight yarn with 5 1/2 sts/ in on a US #5 needle.

From top to bottom: Inca Gold, Linen and Antique White

Winter Pear, Celadon and Dove Grey

Thistle, Hot Pink and Botticelli Pink

Lupine, Lavender and Thistle Down

What's on our needles?

The Yarn Garden staff is always keeping busy with several projects going at once.  Here are just a few on our needles right now:

Arwen's Butterfly Circus socks designed by Alexandra Richards.  She is using MillaMia in color Daisy Yellow.  MillaMia is one of our new yarns, a sportweight soft and washable merino with a wonderful twist.

Emily's lovely shawl in the works using Lotus Yarns Miya, a fingering weight blend of 70% mink/20% merino/ 10% silk.  The yarn is one of softest and really blooms in the lace panel shawl.

Pattern is still in the works, stay tuned for more info on it!

Emily's Color Affection designed by Veera Valimaki.  She is using one skein of Zoe Sock in color  Tequila Sunrise and Rowan 4ply in Cream.

I'm currently finishing the Norne fingerless gloves designed by Mette Jin Mayland.  These are knit with one skein (so far) of Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light in color Tupelo.  Can't wait to finish these, they'll be perfect for camping!
