Knitted Cowls

With holiday knitting in the works, cowls are a great last minute gift to knit up and they're really popular! Here are a few of my favorite cowl patterns and the inspiration for them:

The Look: Gap seed stitch cowl

Knit It: Como Cowl using just 2 balls Debbie Bliss Como yarn in lilac. This is a great seamless pattern for quick Christmas gifts. This is a free Yarn Garden pattern with the purchase of the yarn and can be done in an evening on US 17 needles!

This cowl is knit using 1 ball of Rowan Drift in color Plantation and the Como Cowl Yarn Garden pattern.

The Look: Anthropologie Infinity scarf

Knit It: Creek Cowl using Moorland by Classic Elite in color blue jay.

The Look: Burberry Cabled Cowl

Knit It: Burberry Inspired Cowl pattern by Julianne Smith. We used 3 balls of Latte by Ella Rae in color russet brown. This is a simple cabled cowl knit flat and seamed together using the kitchner stitch.

Winter Warmth Transitions Project

We just sent off our first collection of donated hand knits and crochets for the 2010 Winter Warmth Transitions Project.
Our challenge is to create handmade items to provide warmth for the homeless and our goal is to collect 100 items for men and 60 for women to distribute at local shelters. This winter is going to be a cold one so every bit helps.
Today we sent out 127 hats, 14 scarves and 2 pairs of mittens! All donated by wonderful charity knitters and crocheters. Thank you!

Continue to drop your items off at Yarn Garden until our deadline, December 11th, 2010.
You can find patterns and yarn suggestions for the Winter Warmth Project here.
