Charity Knitting Project - Caps for Soldiers
Picture of the cap on a cute model!
We are adding a new project, Caps for Soldiers to our charity list. Most of our projects are ongoing but this one has a deadline of August 26th, which is approaching fast.
The commanders of the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, (approx. 1,500 Idaho soldiers and 1,200 from Montana and Eastern Oregon) leaving for Iraq in mid September would like to have a cap to put in each soldier’s pack at the time he/she is deployed.
These caps help keep the soldier’s heads warm during the cold season and when it’s hot, hot, hot, the caps can be soaked with water to help keep them cool. Due to burn danger from fire or explosions, caps must be knit with 100% wool. Please choose earth tone colors like beige, tan, black, dark green or brown for safety reasons.
You will find this pattern with the other charity patterns on our website at yarngarden.net. All of us at Yarn Garden hope you will set aside one evening to make a cap and support our troops. We are more than happy to help you pick an appropriate yarn to get you started. A big thank-you to Barbara Jennings and Carla Harwood for bringing this project to our attention.
You can find the pattern here.
